• Inspect fire extinguishers and alarm systems annually. If at any time it appears either have been tampered with, notify the FM immediately.
• Post an evacuation plan with a predetermined meeting place.
• Keep building free of flammable clutter.
o Keep all flammable materials, including wood, paper products, chemicals, and other debris out of boiler rooms, furnace rooms, mechanical spaces, and utility tunnels.
o Keep all closets, cabinets, and other storage areas free from flammable clutter.
o Do not permit dehydrated, flammable materials to be brought into the meetinghouse (this includes straw, hay, cornstalks, grass, and dried palm fronds).
o Flammable liquids, including paint, paint thinner, gasoline, and oil should not be stored inside the building.
• Inform all personnel and students that no open flames or lighted candles are allowed in buildings.
• The use of space heaters should be avoided. If used, they should be UL listed (or equivalent) and be equipped with a “tip-over shutoff” feature.
• Practice a building evacuation twice a year and take roll each time.
Sound the alarm.
Call emergency personnel.
Calmly evacuate students and others to a predesignated area.
Bring class rolls to account for all students.
Keep the students in a safe location.
Do not reenter the building until emergency personnel grant permission.
When everyone is safe notify your stake seminary supervisor.
